The Continental TrueContact Tour uses a silica enhanced tread compound, which combines low rolling resistance with optimized grip, molded into an asymmetric design. This silica enhanced tread compound offers about 5% fuel savings over tires that use conventional tread material and shorten breaking distances by about 6% in conjunction with the Continental TrueContact Tour tread design. The beauty of an asymmetric design is that it is able to combine diverse tread features offering excellent wet and dry traction on the same tire. On the outer shoulder the Continental TrueContact Tour has solid tread blocks and two continuous ribs that maintain contact with the road to promote precise steering response and enhance cornering stability. The continuous central rib of the Continental TrueContact Tour provides constant tread contact with the road and helps shorten breaking distances by controlling the longitudinal forces experienced when breaks are applied. This central rib along with a harmonized tread design and longitudinal grooves work to ensure less rolling noise on the road for a more silent comfortable drive quality. On the inboard side the Continental TrueContact Tour has circumferential tread grooves and independent tread blocks that evacuate water efficiently from under the treads’ path for enhanced traction and resistance to hydroplaning on wet roads and in stormy weather.
The Continental TrueContact Tour uses a belt contour that is designed flatter than conventional belts, this offers a larger contact area between the road and the tread and allows less deflection of the tire for uniform tread wear and increased mileage.
