Goodyear Tires Quick Bio and Tires for Sale

What do you get when you combine the humble beginnings of a strawboard factory, good timing, and over 115 years of passion and hard work? Goodyear Tires, a global leader in the tire and rubber industry. Beginning with founder Frank Seiberling, and a $3,500 loan, Goodyear Tires has positioned itself as a standard for excellence and innovation. The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. got its start making horseshoe pads and tires for bicycles and carriages. The rise in popularity of automobiles, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, created a booming market for car tires, something Goodyear Tires took full advantage of. One year after opening its doors in 1898 the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. began selling automobile tires. What would follow would be history in the making.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company passionately pursued new technologies, many of which would transform the tire and rubber industry, including the following: (1903) the patent for the first pneumatic tubeless tire; (1909) the first pneumatic aircraft tire; (1912) the debut of the iconic Goodyear blimp; (1934) the first studded mud and snow tire; (1937) the first American made synthetic rubber tire; (1947) the first nylon tire; and (1977) the first all-season tire. As impressive as those accomplishments are, Goodyear didn’t just create the technologies that everyone used, they were a leader in bringing them to market. In 1926, with sales of more than $230 million, they officially became the world’s largest tire and rubber company, a position they would hold until the 1988 merger of the Bridgestone Co. and Firestone Tire & Rubber. Today they continue to be the leader in the North and South American tire markets and have an estimated 27.5% North American market share (based on 2011 data).

With all of that success on the street, you might ask yourself, how has Goodyear proven all of these innovations worthy? “Win on Sunday – Sell on Monday.” If there is anything Goodyear knows as well as innovation, its winning on Sunday, race day. It began in 1901 with Henry Ford, their first ever racing tire, and a win. With 368 races won and 25 driver’s championships, Goodyear tires have the most wins in Formula One history. In 1995 they collected their 1000th Nascar Sprint Cup Series win, two years later they became the official tire of Nascar’s top three series. Goodyear has more than 1,350 Nascar wins. They became the official tire of the NHRA in 2001. If you’ve ever had the opportunity to drive off-road, we’re sure you’ll appreciate that Goodyear tires were the first to do so on the ultimate off-road course, the moon, during NASA’s 1970 Apollo 14 mission, and again in 2007, for NASA’s Mars exploration. Goodyear provided the tires for Barry Oldfield’s 72 consecutive dirt track win streak and they provided the tires for Craig Beedlove, and his Spirit of America, as he set a land speed records three years in a row, breaking the 400 mph, 500 mph and 600 mph barriers at the Bonneville Salt Flats. In addition, Goodyear Tires has found great success in many other racing events and series including, the IndyCar series, the Indianapolis 500 and 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Since opening its doors in Akron, Ohio, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has been a leader and an innovator in the consumer tire industry. They have a wide range of tires that will suit your automotive needs. Try the Eagle brand of high performance tires for your sports or high performance car. With the same technology used in their race tires you can be sure that you’re getting Goodyear’s Sunday best. The Goodyear Eagle F1 All-Season tire uses carbon fiber to reinforce its sidewall, which increases road handling. Treadlock technology introduces microgrooves that create edges in the tread that “bite” for enhanced wet traction. Rated for ultra-high performance, the Eagle F1 All-Season tire will allow you to enjoy your high performance sports car as originally intended.

The Goodyear Assurance all-season line of tires are rated a Consumer Digest’s Best Buy. With three unique traction zones on various tires, you will have the confidence to drive in all of the weather conditions you are sure to encounter. The Water Zone uses a sweeping tread pattern to remove water from beneath the tires contact patch in greater quantities. The Ice Zone uses “biting” edges to grab the road in slippery conditions. The Dry Zone has larger tread blocks to ensure more of the tire remains firmly planted to the road.

The Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tire uses Kevlar technology to improve puncture resistance. With wraparound tread, tread that extends into the sidewall, the Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar performs better in loose traction situations, including mud, sand and rocks, and the asymmetric tread creates provides increased grip while off-roading.
