#1 – Who Will Install The Tires I Just Bought Online at NextTires.com?
This is, by far, the most common question we’re asked! With these options we hope to put your mind at ease by addressing your concerns and hopefully earn your business while saving you some money!
- Option #1 – Buy your tires online and have them shipped to your home, place of business, or a nearby FedEx location. It’s best to have them shipped where you or someone you trust will be able to sign for them at the time of delivery. Afterwards you will take them to your local tire shop for mounting, balancing and installation.
- Option #2 – After deciding on the tires that are right for you, and prior to purchase, call ahead to your local tire installer to make sure it’s ok to have your tires delivered to their shop and discuss the costs for mounting, balancing and installation.
- The average cost to have a set of car or truck tires installed is $10 to $25 per tire. Some oversized truck tires may cost more due to special handling requirements.
Actual installation prices will vary based on your vehicle application, your location, a stores policies, local laws relating to tires and related equipment (i.e. TPMS, valve stems, etc.), and the handling and disposal of used tires.

- You can now buy your new tires with a lot less (money) pressure, which will allow you to make a better, more practical decision.
Ok, now that we’re familiar with some of the costs, we need some info, starting with your tire size and service description. This should look something like the following: 255/45R20 105V. Let’s start with your size, which can be found on the tires sidewall and most often resembles one of the following tire size formats:
- Car or CUV – 205/55R16 or P205/55R16.
- Truck or SUV – 255/45R20 or LT305/55R20 or P265/70R16 or 35×12.50R20.
Next, you’ll need your tires Service Description, which immediately follows your tire size. This is usually a two or three digit number followed by a letter. See below for examples that best match your vehicle.
- On car tires you’ll typically find two digits followed by a letter: 79S, 93H or 97W.
- For truck tires you’ll typically find two or three digits, and in some cases two, three digit numbers, followed by a letter: 98T, 104V or 115/112Q.

#4 – How Do I Know When To Buy New Tires For My Car, Truck or SUV?
Knowing when to buy new tires is as important as buying the right tires. So, how do you know when to buy new tires? In this post we share a few tips to help you understand and decide when the best time is to buy new tires for your car, truck or SUV.
First, we must understand and measure your tires tread (depth) and at what depths you should replace your tires. On average, new tires come with 10/32nds of tread. This, of course, varies based on the tire and its intended use. Some tire professionals recommend replacing tires with less than 4/32nds of tread.
Tires with 2/32nds of tread or less are considered, in many states, to be legally worn (out) and unsafe for repair. At this point tire replacement is (always) recommended.
So, how do we measure tread depth? This may be done using a few simple tools.
- Tread Wear Bars – Most tires come with tread wear indicators or bars molded into the tire. You can find them at the bottom of your tires tread grooves. When these bars are visibly flush with the connecting ribs, the tire has no more than 2/32nds of tread left. This means the tire should be replaced.
- The Penny Test – Another simple tire trick involves a penny turned upside down. With Honest Abe facing you, place the penny into the groove of the tread. If the top of Lincoln’s head sits above the tire tread, it’s time to replace your tires.
- Tread Depth Tire Gauge – This tool measures the depth of a tires tread, usually in 32nds of an inch. You may purchase a tire tread depth gauge at most auto parts stores, or online, for a few dollars. Place the tool in the groove of the tire. At 2/32nds of tread or less, it’s time to replace your tires.
